I’ll try to give you a little insight to both the types of recording I’ve done, and how that affects my approach to the wonderful world of audio. The majority of recordings have been for the educational market through WOW! Entertainment Inc. However, I’ve also worked in the local DFW music scene for over 10 years which has given me experience in a wide array of musical genres, as well as audio for video.

This session was for a dinner theater client, and was an adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” Each section was close miked, just in case there needed to be any balance adjustments, but fortunately thanks to the conducting of Mark Brymer, and the expert leadership of the concert master, that wasn’t necessary. The final mix was essentially the Decca tree placed approximately 12 feet over the center of the string section. Brass was also recorded on this date, with a different set up, and this was all layered in with a rhythm session recorded in L.A., and some sequencing.

They say that art imitates life, well here’s the inverse. I don’t think the irony of high school choirs performing this song is lost on anybody. I hope they have as much fun performing it as we did recording.
